Last weekend you came in town for James Graduation. While I like to pretend that you came in to hang out with me, the fact that you brought your whole family with you makes it hard to believe.
Our time together got a surprise start when I was able to come to NYC on Wednesday (the day before you were coming to Chicago) for a job interview. Realistically this “interview” could have happened another time, but the two and a half weeks apart had felt too long already. In the end it proved to be as much of a tease as it was wonderful. I returned to Chicago wishing we could fast forward to the next day and your arrival.
Eventually Thursday evening came and I was able to go pick up the most beautiful girl in the world from the airport. From there we went and quickly met your over served family for a quick hello and then some drinks at the hotel. Then off to bed for some good vibrations.
Friday morning we moseyed on up to Northwestern in the morning to go to the Commencement speech at the football stadium. While you sweated thru your dress in the 100 degree heat, I enjoyed a bagel and the news paper in the park. And while it was great, in highsight I now wish I had spent every second with you. From there – lunch, and then back to Chicago to hang for a bit before we met my parents and sister for drinks.
We met my parents and sister for drink. Lets leave it at that…
Friday night we had dinner and Joe arrived to Chicago. It was clear that Joe makes you the happiest person on Earth, and that you are the life of the party. Dinner was fantastic and there was plenty to drink. We fought that night, but later made up.
Saturday we were up early for graduation, which seemed to last longer than it actually did. It was nice though, and it felt great to be included and involved with your family. We all returned to the city and strolled the streets until we had all strolled enough. You and I returned to our place for a quick nap and then met up with the fam later that night at navy pier.
Dinner at Riv was fantastic but will be remembered for one thing. Joe and Joe. A half hearted attempt at going out later, and you and I were back in bed.
Sunday on the boat was my rose. While the family dynamic had changed a bit, it was the most enjoyable time spent with you……
To be continued….and edited.
